Increasingly, marinas and harbours offer their own free WiFi to mooring tenants and that is a very welcome development but, due to their popularity (and the tendency of users to use 'streaming' connections for their news and leisure) these often become slow to the point of impracticability.
In our previous news item, we explained how the use of a WiFi bat and boat-based hub can bring a range of good signals to the boat and distribute them to your own crew as users. This extended range also provides the option of looking beyond the marina of harbour at neighbouring sources of which two are well worth considering.

2. The 'fon' Scheme - This is an international network of PTT's (internet providers) who cooperate in the words of the Fon organisation to' flood the world with internet connections'. In the UK, BT already offers its own customers the chance of connecting all over the country by 'logging in' to BT fon routers. Being based in The Netherlands right now, we have found that the 'KPN-fon' connections here are available by use of the UK logins and passwords, which has been a boon for us
