Klintholm Havn to Laboe
Thursday 9th June

Harnessing the power of the wind - the huge windfarm west of Gedser OddeIt was another idyllic day for cruising today but with more high winds forecast we opted for a "day at sea" on davidandlou cruiselines which would see us complete our Danish Discoveries voyage and arrive safely back into the Kieler Förde. We planned a fun-packed day of activities, starting with a tour of the bridge, and were even allowed to help the captain with some cruise planning. After coffee there was a handicrafts session and time to catch up on some much missed knitting before the seafood buffet was served on the sundeck. After lunch the on-board entertainment began and a movie double bill whiled away the hours until afternoon tea.

Late evening arrival at the jellyfish infested Laboe yacht harbourThe only incident in the whole voyage was when we strayed into a German military exercise area and were shooed off by a patrol vessel, along with a Polish yacht who seemed even more unwelcome than we were. We noticed varying currents and winds in this "tideless" area, although nothing that affected our speed by more than half a knot either way.

It was 9pm by the time we turned into the Kieler Förde and opted for the first convenient harbour at Laboe. A happy holiday resort, Laboe is made up of rental apartments and chic villas, with a small town centre consisting of places to eat out in whilst on holiday and places to shop in whilst on holiday. For inclement weather, our harbour dues included entry to the adjacent Swimming Hall, complete with infrared warm cabin, solarium, water gymnastics, waterslides, therapy swimming, and children's romping hour.
