Goes to Veere |
|
It was a damp and cloudy morning for our trip to Veere accompanied by UFloozy from the MBM fleet. We wished harbour master Cornelius a happy birthday over the tannoy and made our way down the canal to the sea lock, which we were surprised to see on freeflow, presumably because it was near high water. A fresh breeze made the Oosterschelde slightly choppy but it was no problem to make the short hop round the corner into the Zandkreek. Here we just missed a lock and we had a short wait on the pontoons before we could lock down into the Veerse Meer. At the Kanal door Walcheren we waved goodbye to UFloozy who were headed further on towards Vlissingen, and made our way into the Veere Stadshaven, at the next turning to port. The central moorings were quite crowded but the harbour master indicated two boats where we could raft alongside and ourselves and Virginia Lady tied up.
It was Power Horse Championship day in Veere and the town was full of horse drawn vehicles from ploughs to passenger buses. Next to the inner harbour a showground had been set up where the competion was in full swing. The town itself is very attractive with an olde worlde main street and 15th century Stadshuis museum. Off the beaten track we found De Peperboom, a bistro with a decidly Dutch flavour which made an ideal spot for the last night of our summer cruise.
